Experience Toulouse

At the heart of the Midi-Pyrénées French region, the city of Toulouse has several major advantages in terms of healthcare and patient safety. First of all, it gathers 4 large healthcare facilities and institutions directly involved in these issues:
  • The University Hospital of Toulouse is the reference health facility in this region. It consists of several sites across the north and south of the city. The University Hospital is the largest employer in the Midi-Pyrénées region, with nearly 14,000 people in the health service. It supports approximately 230,000 patients and 660,000 consultants each year, and is the fifth largest French hospital in terms of activity.
  • The “Oncopole” Toulouse Cancer University Institute is the first European campus bringing together all the regional players involved in cancer treatment: caregivers, public and private researchers, academics and entrepreneurs. Operational since the end of 2014, Oncopole includes the Claudius Regaud Cancer Center and some teams of the University Hospital of Toulouse. Both institutions gather the expertise of 1,400 professionals specialized in oncology to ensure three missions: care, research and teaching.
  • The Institute for an Industrial Safety Culture is an association created in 2003 (two years after the explosion of the AZF Industry) aiming at the improvement and development of an industrial safety culture. Among its various missions (education, research, expertise), the institute provides a Master specialized in "Risk Management in healthcare Systems" that meets the certification of the High Authority of Health, which requires each healthcare institution to create a "risk management" function.
  • The Federative Institute of Interdisciplinary Research and Studies Health and Society is an inter-university research federation whose main objective is to promote and stimulate scientific activity about "Health Society" in an interdisciplinary approach.
Toulouse enjoys a privileged location in the southwest of France. The so-called "pink city" is the capital city of the southwestern French department of Haute-Garonne, as well as of the Midi-Pyrénées region. It lies on the banks of the River Garonne, 150 kilometers (93 miles) from the Mediterranean Sea, 230 km (143 mi) from the Atlantic Ocean, and 680 km (420 mi) from Paris. With 1,250,251 inhabitants at the January 2011 census, the Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in France, after Paris (12.3 million), Lyon (2.2 million), and Marseille (1.7 million).
Toulouse is the center of the European aerospace industry, with the headquarters of Airbus, the Galileo positioning system, the SPOT satellite system, the Airbus Group (former EADS), ATR and the Aerospace Valley.
